  • Simon Cowell Talks Zayn Malik Leaving and The Future For The Boys

Simon Cowell has described the moment he found out Zayn Malik was leaving One Direction, joking to James Corden that he was "about to jump off a cliff". Simon appeared on James Corden's Late Late Show talk show in the US, revealing that he was in Miami at the time and received a phone call from Malik. "I kind of knew this was coming if I'm honest with you. We'd had a few conversations and he wasn't happy," Cowell says. "I was trying to say to him, 'You should stay around a bit longer', and then something in him said, 'No, I've had enough'. Once the decision was made I dealt with it, then obviously made sure the guys were okay as they were shocked as well." Cowell also states that he "respects" Malik's decision as he could see that the singer "needed some time off". "Once someone has made their mind up, they're going to go," Cowell continues. "At the same time I didn't want to push him too much, he's 22 and I could see he was stressed and needed some time off. I had to respect his decision." Watch the full interview below. Simon went on to praise the rest of the band for continuing like professionals with the tour. "For the boys it was interesting because they were in the middle of these live shows at the time. • Simon Cowell Donates All Profits From X Factor Winners Single To Charity

Shooting Star Chase has the X Factor once more, as the charity is joint beneficiary of the show’s single, along with children’s hospice umbrella organisation, Together for Short Lives, for a second year. The charity single, which has been written by Ed Sheeran, will be performed for the first time live on the spectacular final of The X Factor on 11 December, and will be available to download and stream on the same night. The video accompanying the charity single highlights Ruby (pictured above), who visited The X Factor studios with her mum, dad and sister during rehearsals last week and met the judges and contestants. Ruby's dad said “When we came out Ruby said it was the best day she’s ever had; basically the best day of her life. It’s what Christmas in your wildest dreams for a 12-year-old would look like!” Nicki adds, “For me as a mum it was amazing to see her there. It was just escapism, which is so important for families like ours – it was a chance to live in a different bubble for a while, which is so beneficial. We think it’s fantastic The X Factor are supporting Shooting Star Chase like this. Ruby says Simon Cowell is a lovely man!” Shooting Star Chase Vice President, Simon Cowell, says, “Once again, I am thrilled that the proceeds from The X Factor 2016 charity single will be going to Shooting Star Chase and Together for Short Lives. The main reason for doing this is that these charities help families and kids through incredibly difficult times. As always, we hugely appreciate the incredible support from the public.” Simco Limited will donate 100% of its profits from the sale of each download and the single will be the ninth charity release from The X Factor and the fifth winner’s single. Profits were split equally between Shooting Star Chase and Together For Short Lives for Louisa Johnson’s ‘Forever Young’ in 2015 and both charities also benefitted from Ben Haenow’s number 1 hit release ‘Something I Need’, Sam Bailey’s ‘Skyscraper’ and James Arthur’s million-selling release ‘Impossible’ in 2012. In 2011 the finalists recorded the cover for the Rose Royce classic ‘Wishing On A Star’. Before that came David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ (2010), Michael Jackson’s ‘You Are Not Alone’ (2009) which supported Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and ‘Hero’ (2008) for Help For Heroes charity.
