Simon Cowell famously has an eye for finding talent but he refused to sign the Spice Girls after they gave him an impromptu audition in a car park.
Former Spice Girls member Mel B, during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday recalled how the girl group accosted the music exec in the 1990s – leading to one of the biggest mistakes of his career.
‘Funny story…he was coming out of work and we kind of hijacked the car park that he was trying to get his car out of…and just sung for him,’ she told Jimmy.
We said ‘'Look we’re going to be famous one day, can you sign us?'’ And he said 'No it’s not going to work,'’ she recounted, while demonstrating Simon’s dismissive hand gesture.
The British girlband comprising of Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell, later became one of the most popular and lucrative girl bands in history.
Simon Cowell must still be kicking himself over this lost opportunity.
Mel B is currently a judge on America's Got Talent with Simon Cowell.
