Simon started his search in June last year saying “Every generation deserves a megastar boyband and I don’t think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years.

“The industry tends to focus on solo artists - so it usually takes someone from outside to put a group together. Nothing beats the fun of being in a group, touring the world and performing for thousands – and it’s also a brilliant launchpad for a solo career.

“When you have a great group, it’s like lightning in a bottle but there’s no magic formula and a fair bit of luck involved!”

“There’s always a high degree of risk and I genuinely have no idea what’s going to happen! We might uncover an incredible group; we might not get there.

“What if no one shows up to auditions? That could be awkward. There is no guaranteed path to success – anything can happen, but that’s what’s exciting for me and that’s why I’m doing this.”

Auditions were held in Liverpool, Newcastle, Dublin and London.

Starting in Liverpool and stopping off at the iconic Cavern Club where the legendary Beatles started out.

Talking about his love for the city he said, ”I love the people here. Every time we've filmed here, I've always had a great time. I love the audience and I'm always fighting with producers saying we've got to film in Liverpool again because we always have the best time."

The documentary style show visits the auditioning process but also shows Simon at home with Lauren who helps elevate the stress and pressure Simon is under to get this right.

Simon speaking in the promo says, “As much as I love my job on TV, I miss where I started, which is signing artists and working with bands.

“There is a massive opportunity. I am going to find a new boy band.”

Adding,: “But there is a huge risk. If this goes wrong it will be ‘Simon Cowell has lost it’.

“The chances of this working are less than 10%.”
