Simon Cowell set to AXE The X Factor and replace it with a celebrity version

After 15 years Simon Cowell has called time on The X Factor!

With sliding ratings Simon has decided to drop the current format and go with a celebrity version of the show.

Celebrities, like soap and reality stars, who have always had an ambition to sing but are not known for their voices will be targeted by producers.

And there will also be a 'champions' section in the show where past X Factor contestants from around the globe will appear according to The Star newspaper.

Auditions have been cancelled and several production staff were laid off yesterday with a show insider telling the Daily Star: “The decision has been made to drop X Factor in its current form.

"It has been 100% axed. The show is done.

Simon hopes to rejuvenate the show by bringing in relevant celebrities who think they can sing.

It is not yet known whether Simon will stay on the panel or if last years judges will return. We will keep you updated with news as it comes in.

An official announcement is yet to be made from ITV or Syco.
