Simon Cowell Becomes Vice President of The Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospices.

Simon Cowell has agreed to become the Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospices Vice President. This is amazing news for the charity which has always been close to Simon's heart.

Simon has supported the Chase Hospice for many years, often attending their events and visiting the hospice in Guildford to meet the children.

Simon, who has been involved with the Shooting Star Chase for a decade, has accepted an invitation to become Vice President as recognition of his tireless work raising funds and awareness for the charity.

During his association with Shooting Star Chase, Simon has donated exclusive auction prizes and attended and spoken at some of the charity’s high profile events. He has also hosted the annual Afternoon Tea since 2012.

Simon has also made a number of private visits to the hospice to spend time with families and staff.

In addition, Simon’s partner Lauren Silverman has also accepted an invitation to become a Patron of Shooting Star Chase.

Since being introduced to Shooting Star Chase by Simon, Lauren has played a significant role in supporting the extraordinary work of the charity – which provides care to babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

The two announcements took place at a star-studded fundraising event at The Dorchester today (22/05) as Simon hosts his annual Afternoon Tea. Simon and Lauren will welcome families, supporters and other celebrity guests including Dame Joan Collins, Denise Van Outen, Sinitta, Duncan James, Matt Johnson, plus Brian McFadden and his wife Vogue Williams.

Families and guests at The Dorchester were treated to an exclusive afternoon tea created by Executive Chef Henry Brosi. The event hopes to raise £40,000 for Shooting Star Chase’s care service thanks to an auction with prizes including a box at the O2 Arena to see One Direction, a private film screening for 125 guests at a Cineworld cinema, and tickets in a box in the presence of HRH The Countess of Wessex for Lead Belly Fest at the Royal Albert Hall with Van Morrison, Jools Holland and special guests.

Simon Cowell says: “It is a huge honour to have been asked to be Vice President of Shooting Star Chase children’s hospice. Everyone involved in the charity does an amazing job caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions as well as supporting their families.

“I remember the first time I was invited down to a hospice, and I’ve got to be honest, I was dreading it. I pictured just greyness in my mind before I got there, then I walked in to this place, which should be sad but it wasn’t. Instead, it was – and is – a beautiful place to be.

“I’ve formed a very close bond with the people involved with the charity over the years and it has become extremely close to my heart. I hope my on-going role will encourage others to get involved – the support Shooting Star Chase receive really does make a difference to the care they can provide to families who desperately need it.”

Lauren Silverman said: “It is such an honour to have been asked to become a Patron of Shooting Star Chase. I am humbled by the work of this charity and, as Simon has said, we have formed such a close bond with the amazing people at Shooting Star Chase. I hope through this role I can help them to raise much needed awareness and revenue.”
