Simon Cowell has waded into Louis Walsh and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s recent war of words by comparing them to quarrelsome cartoon characters Tom and Jerry.
Simon spoke out after the pair engaged in a very public Twitter spat prompted by an interview former judge Louis conducted with heat magazine – during which he branded the singer ‘Lazy and irrelevant.’
Chatting to Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold, Simon shrugged off the spat saying ‘There was always going to be a clash, they’re like Tom and Jerry these two,’ he said. ‘I wish they’d fight more on the show actually. Why do it on Twitter? ‘What we should do, is just invite Louis down every week just to argue with Cheryl!’ And although they have worked together on The X Factor, the relationship has never fully thawed with Cheryl furiously hitting back on Tuesday after reading his comments.
In a new interview with heat, Louis, whose time on the show is reportedly up, claimed Cheryl is lazy. He said: 'Cheryl wasn't great last year. She's sometimes lazy and lacks energy.
'She needs to give more, she can give so much more. She's irrelevant these days.' He also claimed he would prefer to see Mel B return to the show rather than Cheryl, and insisted despite reports to the contrary that he has not been fired.
Cheryl was furious and posted a lengthy rant on Twitter, slamming Louis' comments and accusing him of being obsessed with her.
She said: 'I am beginning to wonder if Louis has some kind of an obsession with me.. 'I mean this is every year whether I am or am not a part of the show .. and btw.. This is the same man asking me what he should say to contestants on our way to the stage bc "he doesn't know"
'Dear Lou Lou. Try using your mouth to say something positive abt something positive.' The full interview with Simon Cowell can be seen on Good Morning Britain tomorrow. A clip from the show can be viewed on our VIDEO PAGE
