Simon Cowell talks about breaking his back in horror accident

Simon Cowell opens up to Extra TV's Terri Seymour about breaking his back in horror electric bike accident, his convalescence and recovery.

Simon talks about the accident bringing him and Lauren closer together and Eric calling him the iron man.

Simon says “It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk.”

He recalled “I knew I’d broken my back the minute I landed,” saying, “it was really, really kind of sudden and it hurt.”

“I was thinking, ‘I’ve got to get back into the house because I can’t lie there’… and made myself kind of get carried into my bedroom, which is right there at the beginning of the house, and I’m lying there and I’m kind of passing out… It was surreal.”

Simon explained, “You’re not supposed to move,” but that wasn’t his thought process at the time.

Simon Cowell: "The pain was off the chart",

Simon went on to say: “Lauren was amazing. Both her and Eric, they were like my support. I couldn’t have gotten through it without them, so we got closer.”

Simon has done really well- I broke mine, 20 and six months old while on military service a long time ago. It is a life changing experience. Like Simon I was fortunate and made a complete recovery although I left the army which I had not joined to sit behind a desk.

I had my spine fused and a bone graft- very painful. The Army were amazing and I've off shore raced, skied, and really have few problems. I still work more than full time.
It just is there all the time as it will be for many- I'm sure his attitude to liofe helped him get through and those around him.
I emailed him at the time as I try to do to everyone who I head about who has that accident and I am sure Simon like us who've been there, know there is a splinter between how we are and those not so fortunate.
It tends to help you make the most of life!

I am so happy you have recovered. I know, when you talked about rods, etc in your back, my husband had rods in his legs, after a serious fall due to the fact chemotherapy had weakened his bones. You said pretty much what he did about the strange feeling knowing metals rods etc. held you together. Enough said about that. It was fantastic to see you on your jetski and enjoying all the things that make you happy, in Barbados. It was obvious you were still suffering and you likely still are, to a degree. There was pain in your eyes so many times as you climbed back onto the yacht. Your strength of character and positive attitude and focus to never give up has made you stronger and it is wonderful to see you back at work. You are always in my prayers, my special friend, and thank God, you are well again. Take care and stay safe and please be careful. Hugs
