Simon Cowell Pays Tribute To George Michael On Radio 2



Simon Cowell is appearing on Ken Bruce's 'Tracks of my Years' show this week. Simon chooses his favourite records from over the years.

Simon has told how he remembers where he was when he heard of the death of George Michael, who he described as “one of the best songwriters ever”. Simon selected Michael’s hit One More Try as one of his favourite songs.

Simon said he was “so upset” when the singer died on Christmas Day aged 53.

Saying: “You always remember where you were when you heard the news and I was on holiday.

“I was so upset because I’ve met George a couple of times. “I found him to be really kind, genuine. He was an amazing person and he was one of the best songwriters ever.”


He said it was a “toss-up” between the number one from album Faith and Praying for Time but selected the former because it “just typifies” Michael, Adding “When he was at the top, this is as good as it gets.”

Simon’s other choices in Ken’s Tracks Of My Years feature included Bare Necessities from Jungle Book. What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. A Song for You by Donny Hathaway. . Danke Schoen by Wayne Newton and Up on the Roof by The Drifters

In the interview, which will be broadcast throughout the week, Simon also spoke about how being a father to Eric, three, has changed his outlook.


He said: "It gives you such a different perspective on life. Things that I thought were important, just aren't.

"Because I see a lot of things through his eyes now, I find everything to be a happier place."

In future episodes to be aired this week, Simon chooses Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers, a song from Prince and Tammi Terrell & Marvin Gaye song that always makes him feel happy.
