Britain's Got Talent is Back! Simon speaks about the show this year!

The Britain's Got Talent team return!

Britain's Got Talent returns on Saturday with Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.

Saturday sees the return of the nation’s favourite variety talent show, Britain’s Got Talent, celebrating its 13th year on screen!

With no shortage of talent or variety, the judging panel – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams – have been surprised, captivated and moved to tears yet again by a whole host of auditionees. The series also sees the return of the nation’s favourite presenting duo Ant and Dec.

Once again, all the judges and Ant and Dec will have the chance to put one contestant straight through to the live semi-finals as their Golden Buzzer act, taking them one step closer to achieving their dream of being crowned the BGT winner 2019, securing themselves an incredible £250,000 and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Expect an unusual harpist, a mind reading dog and one of the most dangerous acts to date among this year’s amazing acts in what is set to be Britain’s Got Talent’s most entertaining series yet!

Over the past decade and more, Britain’s Got Talent has delivered some of the most talked about performances and most memorable TV moments, including Paul Potts, Diversity, Tokio Myers, Lost Voice Guy and of course superstar singer Susan Boyle.

Simon tells us what he thinks of the show this year:

What’s the first thing that goes through your mind when you wake up on audition day? I just hope that I am going to be surprised that day. My biggest thing is I hate predictability, I like being surprised!

How have you found the talent this year?

I definitely looked at the show in a different way to previous years in that I was much more aware of what was going on, what I like, what I didn’t like. You have to stand by your own opinions, but you also have to accept that stuff you don’t like, others may do. If you can find one star person in the series then we’re doing well. Right now I think there’s a possibility for two, there’s real potential.

Alesha’s been a judge and now a host - has she changed?

I swear she’s come back like a producer! You know what, I think it’s been really good for Alesha. She’s got a great sense of humour and I thought she did great on the show in the role she had, she looked very comfortable. Apart from David, there’s no drama on our show.

How will the TV landscape look in five to ten years?

If we were talking 12 months ago what I was being told at the time by a lot of smart people in music and TV is that pop music is dead, older people don’t buy music anymore and it’s all about streaming. Then The Greatest Showman opened, Mamma Mia! comes back, A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody come out, their success was contrary to what we were being told. It wasn’t through hype, it was word of mouth. You watch The Greatest Showman and it’s not like any other musical, it’s in a different league. So luckily you can’t predict anything, you’ve just got to trust your instinct. If you follow the herd, that’s my idea of hell.

Ant and Dec celebrate 30 years working together this year, what do you think is the key to their success? They are exactly the same guys you see on screen as you see off camera. They are very funny.

Would you like to see the same panel come back next year?

Do you know what? I actually think we’ve gone past that stage of even having those conversations where they all think I make the decisions on who stays and goes. I just think we’re all kind of stuck with each other now! They are all so easy to work with, everyone has different tastes and I think that’s good for a show like this because we’re all looking for something different.

BGT has named a new sponsor this year as Marks & Spencer food.

Britain's Got Talent starts Saturday 6th April at 7:15pm on ITV. Followed by Britain's Got More Talent at 8:35pm on ITV2
