BBC Lose The Voice To Rival ITV In A Bidding War

The BBC have lost 'The Voice' to rival ITV in a bidding war.

In a statement today BBC Acting Director of Television Mark Linsey confirmed that the upcoming fifth series would be the Corporation’s last.

Lamenting that the show has been poached by the rival channel, he said: "The BBC is incredibly proud of The Voice, but the fifth series which starts in January will be our last.

"We always said we wouldn't get into a bidding war or pay inflated prices to keep the show, and it’s testament to how the BBC has built the programme up - and established it into a mainstay of the Saturday night schedule - that another broadcaster has poached it."

Insiders at the BBC insisted that ITV were paying “substantially more” than this in order to retain it.

The deal comes after ITV bought the company which owns the rights to The Voice, Talpa, earlier this year.

The new deal means that ITV Studios will make the programme from 2017.

The big question now is...will ITV screen X Factor, Britain's Got Talent AND The Voice? Would all three shows be too much?
